People see advertising every day. It’s no surprise it’s so present in our culture anymore, especially when people go to movie theaters on the regular; granted, visiting the movies is not as popular as it used to be, but people still find time to see the biggest blockbusters of the summer because they want to keep in the loop with everyone else in the realm of pop culture and ‘new’ news. So I set out to search the term ‘movie theater’ on several search engines to see what people immediately associated with theaters.
The answer I received the most? Food.
The second? Advertising.
Until then, I had never consciously contemplated that movie theaters were mills for constant advertising rather than a place people went to genuinely watch movies. They claim no distractions, but what do you call roughly thirty one-minute ads before a film starts? Do you just call those short clips entertainment?
